Al-Jaafari… Russian-US agreement on cessation of fighting actions in Syria represents new exam to countries supporting terrorism

New York, SANA- Syria’s permanent envoy to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari affirmed that the Russian-US agreement on cessation of fighting actions in Syria is going on the track identified by the Syrian government and it represents a new open exam to the countries supporting terrorism as to prove their good intentions in counterterrorism and the support of a political solution to the crisis.

In a phone call with the Syrian TV Wednesday, al-Jaafari clarified that the Syrian government is and will always be open to the political track but at the same time, it preserves its right and its allies’ right of going ahead in the counterterrorism process, particularly against the terrorist mercenaries from foreign nationalities, who come to Syria through the Turkish borders.

He added that Russia and the USA insist on making their agreement a success and they are working on issuing a draft resolution at the UN Security Council for supporting the agreement on the cessation of the fighting actions and calling at the same time for complying with the Council’s resolutions related to Syria, particularly those on the commitment to counterterrorism and the engagement in a political process including the Turkish regime and the regimes of Saudi Arabia and Qatar or else they will be accused of working against what’s called international legitimacy.

Al-Jaafari noted that there is an acknowledgement of the western countries supporting terrorism in Syria that Turkey has become an obstacle hindering a solution as terrorists and weapons cross its borders into Syria continuously.

“We, the delegation of the Syrian government, are open to any advance and we will go to Geneva to embarrass our enemies proving that we, Syrians, are able to have a Syrian-led dialogue among us without foreign meddling or preconditions for saving our country and halting the bloodshed of Syrians,” he added.

Al-Jaafari continued to say “We hope that de Mistura is coming this time to Geneva with a clear list that distinguishes who are terrorists and who are opponents in order not to repeat the same scene that happened recently in Geneva3.”

Earlier, al-Jaafari stressed at a UN Security Council session on the humanitarian status in Syria that the Syrian government is committed to offer all forms of humanitarian aid to all people affected by the crisis all over the Syrian territories, adding “The government is open to cooperate and coordinate with all states and UN organizations working in Syria.”
