Russia’s representative at SCO: We received accession request from Syria

Moscow, SANA- The Russian President’s Special Representative at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Bakhtiyer Khakimov announced that Organisation has received an accession request from Syria.

During a press conference on Friday in the Russian capital, Khakimov said that Moscow hopes to a resolution would be adopted about expanding the organization during the next summit in Russia’s city of Ufa, pointing to a flurry of activity taking place for that end.

“We’ve received recently such a request from Damascus. So far, we have received requests for full membership from Pakistan, Iran and India, and many other countries had requested an observer status, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh and Nepal,” Khakimov added.

The next SCO summit will be held in Russia’s city of Ufa on July 9-10 in Russian city of Ufa. Accepting new members will be high on the agenda.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is an international alliance that consists of 6 member states: Russian, China, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and 4 observers: India, Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
