Dec. 29, Irgun Jewish organization commits a massacre against Palestinians in Jerusalem

1940- London suffers its most devastating air raid when Germans firebomb the city on the evening of December 29.

1947- Members of the Irgun Jewish organization threw a barrel full of explosives at Bab al-Amud in Jerusalem which resulted in the death and injury of 41 Palestinians.

1975- The Parliament of the United Kingdom issues Sex Discrimination Act which protects men and women from discrimination on grounds of sex or marital status. The Act concerns employment, training, education.

1989- Election of Vaclav Havel as President of Czechoslovakia.

1992- The first attack by Al-Qaeda carried out in Aden, Yemen.

2001- A massive fire in the Peruvian capital of Lima leads to the death of 280 people and the injury of thousands.
