Jaish al-Islam terrorists open fire on aid convoy, violate cessation of hostilities 3 times

Lattakia, SANA – The Hmeimim-based Russian center monitoring the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria stated on Thursday that terrorists of the so-called “Jaish al-Islam” opened fire on a UN humanitarian aid convoy in the eastern Harasta in Damascus countryside, seriously injuring one of the drivers.

The center added in a statement that Jaish al-Islam terrorists breached the cessation of hostilities agreement three times in the past 24 hours, putting the total number of breaches at 737 since the agreement came into effect on February 27, 2016.

All the three breaches took place in Damascus countryside, according to the statement, which explained that the terrorists targeted Syrian army positions with mortar rounds once in the vicinity of Erbin town and two other times in Jobar.

The total number of the towns and villages that are now part of the cessation of hostilities agreement rose to 170, said the Russian center.

Its statement noted that terrorists of Jabhat al- Nusra have continued attempts to undermine the agreement as they shelled three villages and the neighborhoods of al-Sheikh Maqsoud, al-Khalidiyeh and al-Maidan and al-Nairab airport in Aleppo and its countryside.

Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists also targeted seven towns in Damascus countryside and a town in Idleb province, the statement added.

The cessation of hostilities agreement is not applicable to ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra or other groups designated as terrorist organizations by the UN Security Council resolution 2268.
