Geneva, SANA – UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said there is no specific date for a new round of the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva.
“The time is not yet mature for the official third round of the intra-Syrian talks. We are intending and we want to do it as soon as possible, no doubt about that,” de Mistura said during a press conference in Geneva on Thursday.
The next round of talks should be held as soon as possible, but in order for it to be effective there must be a clear intention that will lead to real results, he noted, adding that the success of talks is connected with improvement in the humanitarian situation and the cessation of hostilities.
De Mistura said there must be good preparation for the talks and addressing of technical matters.
Regarding the humanitarian situation, the UN Envoy said the United Nations has received from the Syrian government approval to deliver humanitarian aid to 19 besieged areas, noting that aid delivery by land is the first option.
The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic held three rounds of indirect talks in Geneva with various opposition delegations under the supervision of the United Nations, but the “Riyadh opposition” delegation’s insistence on imposing preconditions hampered the track of dialogue and setting a date for the next round.
