Russia and Egypt: No substitute for political solution in Syria

Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Samih Shukri affirmed on Thursday that there is no substitute for continuing efforts of the political solution to the crisis in Syria.

“The two ministers, during a telephone call, stressed that there is no alternative but to resume the efforts to find a settlement in Syria and go ahead in the talks among the Syrian sides under the umbrella of the UN,”  Sputnik news agency quoted Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.

Gatilov: Western countries are not ready to include Jaish al-Islam and Ahrar al-Sham on the list of terrorist organizations.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that Western countries are not ready to include the so called Jaish al-Islam and Ahrar al-Sham organizations on the list of terrorist organizations.

“We have called for this and submitted a relevant proposal to the sanctions’ committee at UN Security council , so that they [the two organizations] would be added to the list of terrorist organizations, but so far, our Western partners are not ready for this,” Gatilov told RIA Novosti Russian News Agency.

Bogdanov, Haddad discuss situation in Syria 

For his part, Special representative of the Russian President, Deputy foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov discussed with the Syrian Ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad the latest developments in Syria and combating terrorism.
