Moscow, Tehran discuss coordination for resolving crisis in Syria

Tehran, SANA-Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian enhancing bilateral coordination between Iran and Russia in issues related to the crisis in Syria and the joint efforts to confront ISIS and other terrorist organizations.

Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday that the consultations witnessed a frank exchange of views on the package of pressing issues on the Middle Eastern agenda, noting that the parties paid special attention to the tasks of ensuring the cessation of hostilities in Syria.

The ministry added that the consultations also discussed the joint efforts to confront ISIS and other terrorist organizations in implantation of the UNSC resolution no.2268 and resolving the crisis in Syria through political means as soon as possible through a comprehensive negotiating process carried out under UN auspices according to UNSC resolution 2254.

Both sides stressed the importance of continuing effective coordination between Moscow and Tehran, including their joint efforts in the framework of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG).

Bogdanov refutes allegations that Russia breached “cessation of hostilities” in Syria

In a relevant context, Bogdanov refuted allegations and accusations that Russia has breached the agreement on “cessation of hostilities” in Syria.

“Those allegations come in the framework of a continued media war because there are sides which don’t have any concern in the success of the political settlement in Syria,” Bogdanov told TASS news agency in a statement, adding that those sides have the desire to see the war continue in Syria.

“Moscow is satisfied with cooperation with Washington on Syria,” he added, pointing out to communications and exchange of information between the two sides in the military affairs.
