Second stage of Syrian Science Olympiad starts in different provinces

Damascus, SANA- The Syrian Science Olympiad on Monday started the competitions of its second stage on the level of areas with the participation of 17,365 male and female students who were qualified from the first stage which was held on the level of schools in different provinces.

Head of the National Commission For the Syrian Science Olympiad Imad al-Azeb, inspecting the competitions process at al-Habaj Secondary School in Damascus, told journalists that the students participating in the second stage will be distributed among 155 schools in different provinces.

Al-Azeb considered that the continuation of the Olympiad and the huge turnout which it witnesses affirm the resilience of the students and their ability to overcome all the obstacles imposed upon them in their daily life due to the current crisis.

He indicated that the Olympiad had witnessed a significant development on the level of the schools which had made special preparation for the Olympiad through holding scientific training courses for their students to prepare them for the schools’ tests in a way that contributed to improving their performance.

He also referred to the initiatives carried out by some governorates to train the students and prepare them for the second stage of the Olympiad.

For his part, Chairman of the Revolutionary Youth Union Ma’an Abboud said that the Olympiad is being held in cooperation and coordination between the Union and the National Commission For the Syrian Science Olympiad, indicating that the success of the Olympiad reflects the awareness of the students and their keenness on building Syria through science and knowledge.

Winners of the second stage competitions will be qualified for the finals that will be held on the level of the provinces and then to the central finals as the best students will be chosen later to form the national teams that will participate in the international competitions of Maths in Hong Kong, Physics in Switzerland, Chemistry in Pakistan, Informatics in Russia and Science in Vietnam due to be held later this year.

The Syrian Scientific Olympiad made significant achievements last year, gaining 4 medals and 5 certificates of appreciation in the framework of international Olympiads.
