Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad on Monday affirmed the important role of the religious institution in consolidating the stability and unity of society and the State, through its correct approach to religious affairs.
The President, receiving a number of Islamic scholars, said that efforts of all scholars have accumulated over the past years until “we began to noticeably reap the fruits of these efforts within the various spectrum of Syrian society, which showed intellectual, knowledge, and religious maturity that parallels and complements the maturity of the religious institution in Syria.”
President al-Assad stressed that the commitment of the Syrian religious establishment to the correct understanding of the Holy Qur’an and the noble Prophet’s hadith contributed mainly to teaching people Islam as revealed by God Almighty, adding there is no moderate and extremist Islam, but rather one Islam, and the extremists are the ones who have become radicals.
