Damascus University marks 2nd anniversary of martyrdom of Islamic Scholar Mohammad Saeed Ramadan al-Bouti

Damascus, SANA – Damascus University in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students held a ceremony at the University on Wednesday to mark the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Senior Islamic Scholar Mohammad Saeed Ramadan al-Bouti.

Al-Bouti was killed in a terrorist explosion inside al-Iman Mosque in Damascus city while he was giving a religious lesson on March 21st, 2013.

Deputy Minister of Religious Endowments, Tayseer Abu Khashrif, said Scholar al-Bouti had taught the right approach of Islamic Sharia (law), hailing his achievements and deep religious knowledge.

“Al-Bouti was a man of thought who instilled in millions of students in various parts of the world the culture of good advice and true freedom,” Khashrif added.

He also referred to al-Bouti’s firm attitude against terrorism which has ravaged the country and to which he fell victim.

In turn, Rector of Damascus University Mohammad Hassan al-Kurdi highlighted al-Bouti’s moderate approach to Islam.

Iyad Talab, Chairman of the administrative office of the National Union of Syrian students- Damascus University Branch- dismissed the assassination of al-Bouti as a “barbaric act of terrorism” aimed to silence the bright voices in Syria.

The late Scholar’s son Mohammed Tawfiq Al-Bouti, who is Chairman of the Levant Scholars Union, said the assassination of his father was prompted by the latter’s determination and relentless efforts to spare the country bloodshed and destruction, efforts that were evident in his calls for discarding sedition and enlightening people about the reality of the internationally-devised plot targeting Syria.
