19th Non-Aligned Movement summit opens in Uganda with participation of Syria

Kampala-SANA- The 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement kicked off this morning in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, with the participation of Syria via an official delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam Sabbagh.

Delivering an opening speech, President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, reviewed the history of this movement and the values and principles it established, noting that the developments our world is witnessing today require adhering to them and strengthening cooperation among its members to face new challenges.

The Palestinian Question and the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people were the focus of the leaders’ speeches delivered during the session, as they voiced their strong support for the Palestinians in their quest to obtain their inalienable rights, most notably the establishment of their independent Palestinian state, in addition to mobilizing efforts to stop the ongoing aggression against them since more than a hundred days.

The speeches also attached great importance to reviving the spirit of solidarity among the movement’s member states to overcome the various challenges they face.
