Patriarch Laham: Arabs with their Christian and Islamic components are responsible for fighting ISIS

Beirut, SANA – Arabs with their Christian and Islamic components are responsible for fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization and not the United States and its allies, Greek-Melkite Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and All the East Gregorios III Laham said Tuesday.

In a statement to the press in Beirut, Patriarch Laham affirmed the importance of finding solutions to all issues of the region for restoring security and stability, on top, finding a political solution to crisis in Syria and a solution to the Palestinian cause in a way that maintains justice for the Palestinians.

“Our East is the cradle of religions and civilizations and the best example of coexistence across the world,” he reiterated, adding “We will be able, from here … from Lebanon, Syria and the East, to launch the globalization of the great values and solidarity.”

His Beatitude pointed out that the Catholic patriarchs will meet soon to set a road map for activating the role of church in society, particularly during the current crisis which doesn’t belong to one country but rather it is the crisis of the whole Arab world.

Patriarch Laham said we rely on an effective strategy for 2015 on the local, regional, Arab, European and international levels to defend the Arab people.
