New York, SANA- Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Amir Saeed Iravani, renewed his country’s support for Syria, stressing that a political solution in accordance with the principles of international law and a Syrian-led process is the only way to end the Syrian crisis.
In his speech during a session of the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Iravani stressed the need to fully respect the national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, noting that terrorism still poses a serious threat to Syria and the region.
“Syria has always played an important role in the region and is one of the main pillars of security and peace in the region. We support its regional position as we believe that a secure, stable and developed Syria serves the whole Syrian people, the region and the international community”, Iravani said.
Iravani noted that the illegal presence of foreign forces in northern Syria is a violation of the UN Charter and the international law and creates favorable conditions for terrorist activities that must be ended.
The envoy called on the UN Security Council to immediately force the Israeli occupation to stop its acts of aggression against Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Iravani stressed the need to lift the unilateral coercive Western measures imposed on the Syrian people, especially the measures targeting the health sector, pointing to the severe suffering of the Syrians as a result of these measures.
Iravani pointed out that his country welcomed the unanimous approval of Resolution 2672, stressing Tehran’s support for the work of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution without any external interference.
