BANGKOK, SANA- Some delegations sought to expel Russia from the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum during its 30th session, which concluded in Thailand’s capital of Bangkok on Friday, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council (the upper house of parliament) Andrey Yatskin told TASS.
According to him, since the event took place in-person, Russia had the chance “to defend its positions despite certain aggressive moves by a number of delegations to the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum.
” “It is primarily about the delegations of Canada, Australia, South Korea and Japan,” he specified.
“Those delegations kept trying to include some positions in all resolutions, which had nothing to do with the agenda of working groups and plenary sessions,” Yatskin noted.
“They used aggressive rhetoric and even proposed that Russia’s delegation be expelled from the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum,” he noted. “Obviously, other forum members did not support this proposal,” the senator stressed.
According to Yatskin, when working on each of Russia’s resolutions, which were passed later, certain delegations sought “to initiate amendments illegally accusing Russia of some aggressive actions.”
“This was eventually avoided, which makes it clear that most members of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum agreed with the Russian delegation’s opinion on the resolutions,” he said.
“We have explanations for every thesis,” Yatskin went on to say. “And we managed to convey them to our colleagues,” he added. “As a result, a final communique was prepared, which was signed by 20 delegations,” the Russian senator noted.
