Culture Ministry launches first national competition for Syrian choirs

Damascus, SANA-The Ministry of Culture announced the launch of the first national competition for Syrian choirs entitled “Syrian Heritage”.

Conditions for participating in this competition include “the choirs have previously given concerts in the city where they are located, singing should be at least for two different voices, all members are aged from 18 years and above, and the choir members should not exceed 25 singers including a maestro ,in addition to accompanying musicians (if any, with no more than 12 ones), according to the ministry.

It also set the terms of the musical program for the participating choir that includes pieces from the heritage representing the governorate or the city the choir came from. The program may include two pieces at most from non-heritage.

A live recording comprised two musical pieces distributed for several sounds must be sent to the designated e-mail by choirs wishing to participate, provided that at least one of the pieces set on the recording is from the Syrian heritage, it added.

The deadline for receiving the applications is on 15th September, according to the ministry.

A special committee formed by a decision by the Culture Minister will listen to the recordings and conduct the preliminary qualifiers, and the accepted ones to participate in the second stage including giving two pieces of music from heritage within a concert at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts .

The result of the first-place winner will be announced  in a closing ceremony on Dar al-Assad theater.
