Moscow, SANA- Russian President’s Special Envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev stressed that the guarantor states of the Astana process are working to increase the effectiveness of counter-terrorism operations in Syria and reduce the level of escalation in the country.
In an interview with TASS News Agency today, Lavrentiev stressed the necessity of continuing the war against the remaining terrorist in Syria, given that a large number of extremist and terrorist groups remain in Idleb in particular.
Lavrentiev pointed out that the current consultations aim to find and develop mechanisms that would lead to more effective work on combating terrorism and reduce the level of escalation.
He added that his country continues to interact with the United States on Syria despite the continued low level of relations between the two countries in general.
After their meeting last July in the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan, the guarantor states of the Astana process, reiterated their strong commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity and to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, stressing the continuation of joint action to combat terrorism in all its forms and names in Syria and rejecting separatist agendas aimed at undermining its sovereignty and regional integrity.
