More high-level meetings to consolidate and step up national reconciliation

Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham called for maximizing efforts to go ahead with the course of national reconciliation to more effectively face the takfiri mentality and terrorism ravaging the country for almost four years now.

Al-Laham’s remarks came during a meeting with a number of senior religious and social figures and representatives of national reconciliation committees from the neighborhoods of Rukn-Eddin and Wadi al-Masharee’ in the city of Damascus and al-Kiswa town in the countryside.

Two days ago, al-Laham also met with social and religious figures in Sahnaya and Ashrafiyet Sahnaya towns in Damascus countryside.

Such meetings with dignitaries, senior figures and reconciliation committees’ representatives in various areas have been intensified over the past period within doubled efforts by the parliamentary National Reconciliation Committee to push for making more local reconciliations all across the country.

The many cases of reconciliations which have been made nationwide have greatly contributed to restoring security and stability to the areas where they occurred.

The Speaker noted during the meeting that the role of dignitaries and civil figures is highly counted on in launching dialogue in neighborhoods and helping in expelling “terrorists who are alien ” to those neighborhoods so as to reduce the residents’ suffering.

He affirmed that the National Reconciliation Committee is working alongside the Ministry of State for National Reconciliation Affairs and the concerned civil, social and religious figures to consolidate the concept of reconciliation and make it clear that “the door is wide open for all those willing to get back on the right track.”

Chairman of the parliamentary committee Omar Aussi, who was present at the meeting, asserted the committee’s full readiness to contribute to settling the legal status of all those who were mislead into getting involved in the current events and want to go back to their normal lives.

Tackling the files of the detainees and abducted people was also stressed as a priority for the committee.
