Lattakia, SANA- Craftsman, Ibrahim Suleiman Hassieno continues his career in the wood industry at his workshop in Datour neighborhood on the outskirts of Lattakia city to make distinguished tools and innovate in this profession that he inherited from his father for more than 15 years.
Kitchen and agricultural tools and decorative pieces from different seizes are elegantly arranged by craftsman Hassieno on the show table in his own pavilion within the fair of flowers and handicrafts hosted by al-Foursan Garden.
“I learned this craft from my grandfather and mastered its origins from my father, as it is not just a profession, but rather an ancient heritage that is passed throughout generations and inherited to children after fathers and grandfathers,” as he told SANA reporter .
He added that the profession has witnessed an unprecedented prosperity in the old time with developing the life, the people are heading to everything new and modern , become a heritage that we are proud of , but it is threatened with extinction.
Hassieno depends in his work on the available kinds of wood, particularly beech, maple, and Eriobotrya, which are similar in their specifications and afford the oak wood, using several tools to carve wood, including Adz, saws, file tool, and al-Huwaiqa to lighten them, and sandpaper to smooth and get the final product.
He added that the time taken to complete the work differs between pieces and ranges from several hours to days, depending on the digging.
Hassieno expressed his happiness with his work despite the big muscular effort he needs, accuracy and focus to avoid the risk of injury while he is using sharp tools.
