Education sector sustained losses exceeding SYP 170 billion due to terrorist acts, minister says

Damascus, SANA-Education Minister Hazwan al-Waz , who is Chairman of the Syrian National Committee for Education, Culture and Science affirmed the necessity of finding a mechanism to speed up obtaining permits for foreign nominations to be sent on time.

The minister also stressed the necessity of nominating competent cadres to participate in international conferences and activating Syria’s presence in international organizations and forums.

Al-Waz pointed out during his meeting on Sunday with members of Syrian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture that the commission should enhance cooperation and communication with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) in all basic fields.

The minister reviewed the direct and indirect damage caused to the education sector during the current crisis by terrorist acts that was estimated at more than 170 billion SYP.

He said that despite challenges, the education process is continuous even in the unsafe areas.
