New penalties imposed for unlicensed medical advertising

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad issued on Sunday Law no. 32 amending Article 8 of Law no. 7 for 2005 that is related to the system of the scientific offices for medical advertising.

The amendment stipulates for imposing an imprisonment sentence of 3 months to two years and a fine of SYP 100,000 to 300,000 on individuals who practice medical advertising without getting prior permission to open an advertising office for the purpose.

Unlicensed medical advertising offices will have to be closed and the contents confiscated until having their status settled.

In a statement to SANA, Health Minister Nizar Yazigi said that this amendment will help curb negative practices that some may pursue to make personal gains at the expense of citizens’ health, and that it’s in line with the Ministry’s policy of transparency in dealing with health issues.
