Restoration of Tal Baider archeological site in Hasaka

Hasaka, SANA- The Antiquities and Museums Department in Hasaka province has started various restoration works at Tal Baider archeological site to the north of the province on the road that links the cities of al-Hasaka and al-Dirbasyia.

Head of the Department Khalid Ahmou, in a statement to SANA reporter, said that the restoration works include the architectural block which consists of four temples and a palace dating back to the middle of the third millennium BC, in addition to renovating the cavities and cracks within the modern enclosed walls of the archaeological blocks, and cleaning and rehabilitating the site.

Hamou underlined the importance of the restoration process at Tal Baider archeological site as it is one of the best archeological sites which date back to the third millennium BC and to protect it against the weather conditions.

The archaeological site of Tal Baider is located 35 km to the north of Hasaka city, and it is of a crescent shape that passed through a number of phases (the Assyrian, Intermediate, Mitanni, and Hellenistic).

The most important and prosperous phase was in the middle of the third millennium BC, where a kingdom named Nabada was established inside a city fortified with external and internal walls and gates, and it contains palaces and temples, and it controls all the countryside areas surrounding the site.

It is noteworthy that Hasaka Province is considered one of the richest archaeological areas in Syria and includes approximately 800 archaeological sites registered by the Department of Antiquities and Museums therein, in addition to (146) unregistered sites.
