1989 – UN adopts Convention on the Rights of the Child

1923 – South African Writer and Nobel-Laureate Nadine Gordimer was born.

1935 –Sheikh Izzeddin Al-Qassam , who led the first Palestinian unit resisting British forces, passes away.
