International Security Council renews adherence to Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity

New  York, SANA- The International Security Council has renewed its adherence to Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, indicating that the solution to the crisis in it will be reached through peaceful means.

In a presidential statement on Tuesday, the Council affirmed that the establishment of a constitutional committee led and owned by Syria “constitutes the beginning of the political process which aims to end the crisis in it according to the Security Council’s resolution No. 2254 in a way that meets the aspirations of all the Syrians.”

Upon announcing the agreement on forming the constitutional committee on Sep 23rd, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hailed the efforts exerted by the Syrian Government in cooperation with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen for reaching the agreement on forming this committee, indicating that the UN will facilitate its job in Geneva.
