Munzer: Syria supports all initiatives aimed at solving the crisis

New York, SANA – Acting Chargé d’affaires of Syria’s permanent delegation to the UN Munzer Munzer affirmed Syria’s readiness to engage in all initiatives aimed at solving the crisis in the country.

Munzer made his remarks during the UN Security Council Open Debate on Upholding International Law within the Context of the Maintenance of International Peace and Security held on Thursday.

He added that Syria has worked hard to reach a peaceful settlement by the Syrians themselves without any foreign intervention through diplomacy, negotiations, and mediation.

He noted that the Syrian government has sent numerous letters to the UN Secretary-General and member states indicating that the establishment of the so-called “International Impartial and Independent Investigation Mechanism in Syria” constitutes a serious breach of the UN Charter and deliberate distortion of the provisions of the international law.

The Syrian diplomat noted that this suspicious mechanism serves malicious agendas, adding that some of the states which support this illegal mechanism still provide funds to Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization and facilitate money laundering for funding terrorism through their financial and banking institutions, not to mention the involvement of their intelligence agencies in the emergence, recruitment, training and sending of foreign terrorists to Syria and Iraq.

Munzer said that the Palestinian and the Syrian peoples who are under Israeli occupation are still waiting the Security Council to implement the international legitimacy resolutions related to ending the occupation for more than 50 years.

He said that the reality of the situation proves that some of the Security Council’s permanent members prevent the implementation of UN resolutions and provide cover for Israeli occupation to expand its settlement and to displace and kill Palestinians in full sight of the whole world, all while the Council remains silent and unable to carry out its mandate by holding Israel accountable for its brutal and barbaric acts against the Palestinians , the last of which was killing 60 unarmed civilians and injuring over 3000.

Munzer reiterated that the Syrian people are waiting for the UNSC to uphold it mandate in dealing with aggression of the so-called “international coalition” led by the US on Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the Turkish aggression on Syria’s sovereignty, the recurring Israeli attacks against Syria, and the US-British-French tripartite aggression on Syria that took place on April 14.

He pointed out that the people of the world, especially the Syrian and Iraqi peoples, are waiting for the Security Council to hold the governments of some member states and their intelligence agencies accountable for their involvement in creating the phenomenon of the terrorist foreign fighters who have killed thousands of innocent Syrians and Iraqis and committed crimes on daily basis around the world.
