Oman activates participation in oil investment in Syria

Damascus, SANA – Syria and Oman discussed on Wednesday starting steps to the effect of activating economic and investment cooperation according to a vision that meets the interests of both sides.

During a meeting with Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Said bin Saleh Al Kiyomi, Prime Minister Imad Khamis welcomed the Omani’s side participation in investment activities in Syria, particularly in the fields of oil, mineral resources and tourism.

Khamis briefed Al Kiyomi on the new investment facilitations, legislations and laws issued in Syria to encourage foreign investment, expressing his appreciation of the training and expertise exchange plan organized by the Omani side in Syria.

Al Kiyomi, for his part, noted that Syria and Oman are working on reaching an agreement in the oil field and the establishment of a joint training center in Syria, noting that executive steps have been taken for implementing the plan of training Syrian cadres in Oman.

He pointed out that work on establishing the Syrian-Omani company which will operate in the sectors of oil services and extraction of oil and oil field developments is underway.

Al-Kiyomi revealed that the Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX) 2018 will be held in Syria, as the Omani exports fund will handle coordination between businessmen of both sides.

In the same context, the executive basics of the memorandum of understanding signed between Syria and Oman early November was discussed between Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Ghanem and Al Kiyomi during a meeting held at the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry’s building.

Both sides touched upon means to expand the prospects of joint cooperation between the two countries to meet the requirements of the reconstruction stage in Syria.

Talks during the meeting focused on discussing fields of joint cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

Ghanem welcomed the offers presented by the Omani side, stressing the continuation of joint coordination and effective cooperation with the Omani economic actors.

In turn, Al Kiyomi affirmed his country’s keenness to contribute to all that would help in the recovery of the Syrian economy and the return of Syrian production to its main levels.

The two sides also agreed to start organizing training courses for technical cadres in the Syrian Ministry of Petroleum to the Sultanate of Oman in all oil sectors.
