Syria, Belarus to enhance industrial, trade cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Industry Minister Ahmad al-Hamo discussed with his Belarusian counterpart Vitaliy Vovk means of establishing joint industrial projects in engineering and chemical sectors.

Al-Hamo said that the Ministry relies on the friendly countries, including Belarus, to rehabilitate terror-affected industrial companies, provide requirements of operating industrial companies and establishing joint projects according to the protocol signed between the two sides, especially in the fields of assembling trucks and buses, electric home appliances, medicines, food and agricultural industries.

The Minister said that hundreds of trucks, vehicles and buses will be imported to the Ministries of Public Works and Housing, and the Local Administration and Environment within the framework of the Syrian-Belarusian cooperation.

He stressed the need to complete procedures regarding the entry of Syrian exports to Belarusian markets and give them privilege, in addition to establishing a Belarusian credit line to fund joint industrial projects, submitting a proposal to the Belarusian side on studying the possibility of rehabilitating the tire factory in Hama province.

For his part, Minister Vovk, who is heading the Belarusian side to the Joint Belarusian-Syrian Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation, stressed the need to activate the work of the commission, in addition to studying economic and technical cooperation projects, increasing trade exchange and providing Syrian companies with their needs of raw materials, half-manufactured commodity  and end products.

He noted to the possibility of overcoming the difficulties hindering funds transfer between Syria and Belarus through barter trade, indicating that the Belarusian market needs phosphate, cotton, vegetables and fruits.

The Belarusian Minister stated that “MAZ” Plant is leading the Syrian-Belarusian cooperation taking into account efforts exerted to establish a factory to assemble trucks and buses in Syria, calling for launching more projects the serve the interests of the two countries.
