People’s Assembly holds session with attendance of PM and some ministers

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly held on Thursday its final session of the third ordinary round of the 2nd legislative term, headed by Speaker Hadiyeh Abbas and attended by Prime Minister Imad Khamis and a number of ministers.

In a speech, Speaker Abbas said the Assembly discussed during this round the performance of a number of ministries and tackled several issues regarding the citizens’ livelihood.

For his part, Prime Minister Imad Khamis pointed out that since the early days of the crisis, Syria has maintained its stated position of supporting national dialogue in order to achieve a political solution that preserves the sovereignty and independence of the country, adding that the negotiations in Geneva and Astana came as an affirmation of Syria’s work to invest every hope to solve the crisis.

Khamis said that on the other hand, some parties participating in the meetings of Astana and Geneva are trying to deceive the Syrians and the world to send some of their leaders to allegedly talk about peace and democracy, whereas their agents continue committing terrorist acts and open new fronts of fighting.

He however affirmed that those have failed in the confrontation with the Syrian Arab army, whose battles in Damascus’s Jobar and in Daraa and Hama countryside have sent a bitter and decisive message to the whole world that the terrorists have no hope in Syria.

The Premier reviewed the terrorists’ systematic targeting of the national economy, especially of the energy sources and production facilities, pointing out that the government is working on providing larger support to the national production wheel in all sectors.

At the begging of the session, the Assembly discussed a bill on exempting imported machinery and production lines for the licensed industrial establishments from customs charges and other import fees.
