Mikdad honors actress Sulaf Fawakherji, director of award-winning film “Cherry Letters”

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad honored on Thursday the Syrian actress and director Sulaf Fawakherji.
Fawakherji received the best director award for her film “Cherry Letters” at Delhi International Film Festival.

Mikdad congratulated Fawakherji for her award, noting that the artist is known for her honorable stances and her commitment to the nation’s issues, especially as she won the award for a film that talked about the occupied Syrian Golan and explained to the world the continuation of the Israeli crime of occupying the Golan and its defiance of international resolutions, demanding it to withdraw from the Syrian territory.

In a press statement, Mikdad pointed out to the creativity of the Syrian artists and their role in uncovering the evil reality of terrorism despite the threats of armed terrorist organizations, hailing the efforts of Culture Ministry too.

In turn, Fawakherji expressed her appreciation for this honoring, saying that this will increase her responsibility towards the homeland’s issues.

She noted that the “Cherry letters” film achieved six awards, indicating that the production of Syrian films under the current circumstances is a message to the world that the Syrian people have a strong will.

Produced by Syriatel Telecommunication Company, in cooperation with Shaghaf for Art Production Company, the film is the first directing experience for the renowned actress Fawakherji.

The film is talking about the occupied Syrian Golan, the 72 minute- long film passionately tells a story of love between a boy and a girl and another symbolically-expressed one between people and a land in a sublime atmosphere of cherry-colored nostalgia.
