Lavrov, Zarif stress need to coordinate efforts ahead of Astana talks on Syria

Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed on Monday the situation in Syria and the preparations for intra-Syrian talks due to be held in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana, Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Sputnik news agency quoted the Ministry as adding that both Ministers, in a telephone call, affirmed the need for “further coordination in the context of the forthcoming intra-Syrian talks in Astana”

The intra-Syrian talks are expected to be held on January 23rd, with the aim of pushing forward a political settlement to the crisis in Syria after a cessation of hostilities agreement has been reached.
