Domestic handicrafts at Charity Bazaar held in Damascus

Damascus, SANA – Within the framework of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Worldwide Campaign, Information Ministry, in cooperation with the UN Fund for Population, on Saturday organized a charity bazaar with the participation of 25 civil association and a number of international humanitarian organizations.

The bazaar, held at Damascus-based Four Seasons Hote, showcased handicrafts and products made by women at workshops or at home after training courses, including wool fabrics, crochet items, accessories, embroidery supplies and decorative stuff.

Head of Development Media at the Information Ministry, Ammar Ghazali, said that the objective of such events is to support the Syrian women due to their suffering from the ravages of the severe terrorist war waged on the country, underlining the important role of civil associations and the UNFPA’s activities to raise awareness about the need to eliminate violence against women.

He underlined the Ministry’s efforts to shed light on the importance of educating women and empowering them to play active role in building and developing their society.

The event provides an opportunity to shed light on the civil society’s initiatives and projects in different Syrian provinces to empower women and enhance their economic and social contribution to society, said Kinda Katranji, the UNFPA press and communication officer in Damascus.

This year, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence kicked off under the theme “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All” to raise awareness and mobilize public opinion to bring real and significant change in the lives of women and girls.
