Shoukry reiterates Egypt’s firm stance on the necessity of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity

Cairo, SANA-Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed his country’s stance towards solving the crisis in Syria, stressing rejection of any foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs with the aim of serving “self-interests”.

Minister Shoukry was quoted by Egyptian mass media as saying in statements during his visit to Washington that Egypt’s firm stance towards the crisis in Syria is based on two axes, the first of which is the necessity of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, national unity and state institutions.

The second axis is supporting the legitimate aspirations of the Syrians through adopting political decisions that reflect the desire of all the Syrian people, Shoukry added.

He indicated that the Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura must resume the talks among the Syrian parties soonest possible and without any delay, stressing that Egypt will continue to support the efforts exerted by de Mistura.

Shoukry warned the foreign parties of interfering in Syria’s internal affairs and supporting internal parties based on “self-interests”, asserting the necessity of learning lessons from what has taken place in Iraq and Libya.
