Mini-cabinet meeting: Bold steps towards developing industrial sectors to be taken

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Imad Khamis on Sunday headed a special mini-cabinet meeting to discuss the Ministry of Industry’s plan and its future vision for the public industrial sector.

Several previous meetings with different figures and syndicates preceded today’s meeting with the aim of crystalizing a final vision for Industry sector and submitting it to the cabinet for study and consideration.
Given the importance of industrial sector to the national economy, the cabinet members indicated that bold steps towards developing this sector will be taken in the near future.

The plan focuses on addressing obstacles hindering the progress of public industrial sector, setting up mechanisms to solve these issues, conducting a comprehensive study on the executive work in the sector and enhancing the contribution of the private sector.

Support mechanisms to provide necessary production requirements and raw materials needed to establish factories and new industries starting from small handicraft industries were also dealt with, not to mention funding priorities whether through self-financing , participatory financing or foreign investments.

The plan contained the Industry Ministry’s short-term objectives in providing support to profitable companies to continue production, enhancing productivity of marginal companies, developing production lines of losing companies and closing suspended companies and making use of their position to establish joint projects.

Prospects of cooperation with Ministry of Administrative Development to improve performance of industrial facilities and boost their productivity to meet the needs of current stage were also tackled.

The plan highlighted the need for activating vocational training centers to supply the industry sector with qualified technical cadres, providing support to the Syrian Arab Standards and Metrology Organization to guarantee and protect the high-quality of public and private sectors’ products, and implementing projects in key sectors such as food, medicine and renewable energy.
