Foreign Ministry: Terrorist attacks on residential neighborhoods in Damascus and Qamishli an attempt to undermine efforts of sparing blood of Syrians

Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on Wednesday that the terrorist attacks that targeted the safe residential neighborhoods in Qamishli and Damascus is an uncovered attempt by the regimes that support and sponsor terrorism to undermine efforts of  sparing blood of the Syrian people, the arrangements of the truce and anticipating the convention of a new round of Geneva meeting to make it a failure.

The Ministry said in two identical letters sent to the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Security Council on the terrorist bombings in Qamishli and Damascus and the terrorist rocket attacks on residential neighborhoods in Damascus, that ISIS terrorist organization targeted on Wednesday July 27, 2016 Qamishli city through a suicide bombing with a car bomb that targeted the western neighborhood of the city, killing  48 civilians and wounding 140 others, mostly children, women and elderly.”

“The so-called moderate opposition groups also attacked the safe neighborhoods in Damascus on Sunday and Monday, July 24th and 25th, 2016 with rocket, mortar shells which fell in Abu Rumaneh, Bab Touma and al-Qaimariyeh neighborhoods…  while Kafarsouseh residential neighborhood was also targeted by a car bomb… The attacks killed nine civilians among, them a mother who was celebrating her son’s birthday with her family in a restaurant in Bab Touma neighborhood in Damascus old city.” The two letters said.

The Ministry added that “the moderate terrorism” also targeted several residential neighborhoods in Aleppo city with rocket and mortar shells and gas cylinders “Hell cannons” on July 24, 2016 killing a woman along with her child in al-Khalediyeh neighborhood, injuring dozens of civilians, mostly children, women, and elderly and causing huge  damage to homes, schools, hospitals and infrastructure in these safe neighborhoods.

“Those terrorist attacks are continuation of the systematic terrorist acts committed by the armed terrorist groups like Jabhat al-Nusra, Jaish al-Islam, Ahrar al-Sham and Jaish al-Fateh, Nour-Eddin el-Zinki movement and ISIS terrorist organization against the Syrian people,  in a violation of the agreement of the cessation of hostilities”, the ministry said, adding that it is a new attempt from regimes and states sponsoring and supporting terrorism in Riyadh, Doha, Ankara, Paris and Tel Aviv to undermine the efforts to stop Syrians’ bloodshed, the Ministry said.

The two letters affirmed it is shameful that some member States at the UN Security Council continue to prevent the Council from taking immediate punitive measures against states and regimes supporting and funding terrorism, particularly Riyadh, Ankara, Doha, Paris and London, giving the green line to these regimes to go on in their terrorist acts and commit massacres against the Syrian people.

The Ministry went on to say that the Syrian government affirms that the terrorist acts and massacres will not deter it from continuing its duty in fighting terrorism and working to achieve a political solution to the crisis through intra- Syrian dialogue under a Syrian leadership and to eliminate terrorism and rebuild what has been destroyed by the terrorists, their partners, supporters and to restore security and stability to the Syrian people.

“The Syrian government calls on Security Council members which rejected to include Jaish al-Islam and Ahrar al-Sham in the lists of the Security Council related to individuals, entities, groups and terrorist groups and organizations to  reconsider their stance and enlist other terrorist organizations, like Nour-Eddin el-Zenki and Jaish al-Fateh terrorist groups on the lists of the UN Security Council’s terrorist groups and entities, in a step that affirms their determination to fight international terrorism which poses threat to the security and stability of the peoples of the world, the two letters said.

Foreign Ministry concluded by saying that the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic demands UN Security Council to condemn those terrorist crimes and meet its obligations in maintaining international peace and security through taking immediate, deterrent and punitive measures against states and regimes that support and fund terrorism, particularly Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar and forcing them to abide by UN relevant resolutions No. 2170, 2178, 2199 and 2253.
