Homs Governorate and IOM discuss cooperation

Homs, SANA – Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi discussed on Sunday with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) William Lacy Swing and the accompanying delegation means to enhance joint cooperation in the fields of health, relief, and development in Homs province.

The Governor pointed out to the huge efforts exerted by the IOM in Homs, affirming that the province started to recover and return to its normal state, especially after restoring security and stability to Palmyra and al-Qaryatain cities despite the massive damage caused by terrorism to infrastructure, mainly hospitals and schools which require a significant support from international organizations.

He said the IOM will offer support to the health sector by providing prosthetics to people who lost limbs, adding that the Governorate in turn is working on supporting those people by providing them with means to start small projects.

For his part, Swing said that the visit aims at witnessing firsthand the organization’s projects in the province, adding that what drew his attention the most is the people’s bravery and their insistence to go on with their lives in Homs.
Earlier, Swing and the accompanying delegation visited the prosthetics-fitting center which is being set up by the IMO in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and in coordination with Homs Governorate in Jorit al-Shyah neighborhood in Homs city, which is scheduled to open soon after receiving the necessary equipment and medical staff.

They also inspected a project in al-Ghouta neighborhood for rehabilitating and training of 200 people who have lost limbs, which is also carried out by the IOM, in addition to visiting a number of Homs neighborhoods and inspecting the repairs being carried out in residential apartments in the Old City’s neighborhoods.
