Matviyenko.. Fight against ISIS and other terrorist organizations will continue

KUALA LUMPUR, SANA, The fight against ISIS terrorist organization and other international terrorist groups will continue until they are completely destroyed, the speaker of Russia’s Upper House of Parliament Valentina Matviyenko said Tuesday.

Matviyenko told reporters after a meeting with the Speaker of Malaysia’s Senate, Abu Zahar Ujang, that Russia, as an influential state in the international community, cannot sit aside of fighting the worst evil of the age, which is the international terrorism, particularly ISIS, and that’s why Moscow took part in air operations in Syria against terrorist organizations and succeeded in that by eliminating terrorists from Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States who were fighting within the ranks of ISIS, in a move to “protect our country from the possibility of terrorist activities be perpetrated by those terrorists on the Russian lands”, Russia’s News Agency TASS reported.
Russian Aerospace Forces began strikes against ISIS and other terrorist organizations in Syria upon request from the Syrian Government last September.

Russia will continue supporting required exerted efforts for the political solution to crisis in Syria and encouraging intra-Syria dialogue, Matviyenko added, pointing out that the peace process in Syria is “Irreversible”.

A new round of intra-Syrian dialogue began March 14 by the first meeting of the UN Special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura with the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the dialogue headed by Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN at the UN HQ in Geneva.

Matviyenko pointed out that the basic tasks, set by President Vladimir Putin, for the Russian Forces in Syria were accomplished and the decision of pulling out major part of these forces was taken to have the “the cessation of hostilities and political dialogue continue”.
On Monday, Syria and Russia agreed, during a telephone call between President Bashar al-Assad and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to decrease the number of the Russian air forces in Syria.

She expressed her country’s appreciation of the cooperation with the US in the “cessation of hostilities” in Syria which became an international legal document and which should be implemented by all states participating in the political process in Syria.

“The cessation of hostilities agreement” was agreed upon by Presidents Russia and the US and was certified by the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 on 27 February.
