Syria, Iraq to enhance cooperation against terrorism

Baghdad, SANA-Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham discussed on Monday with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi bilateral relations between Syrian and Iraq and means of activating joint cooperation in all sectors, mainly in combating terrorism.

Al-Laham, who is on a visit to Baghdad to attend the 11th session of the conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUIC), affirmed that Syria and Iraq share the same battle against terrorism which is backed by known Arab and regional countries, hoping Iraq would defeat terrorism to restore its pioneering role in the region.

Al-Laham hailed cooperation and coordination among Syria, Iraq and Iran in eliminating terrorists and cutting off their supply-routes.

For his part, al-Abadi called for adopting an Arab responsible stance against terrorism, appreciating the achievements of the Syrian Arab Army in its battle against terrorism.

He criticized behavior of some regional countries which claim they fight terrorism while adopting the same ideology and mentality.
