Cabinet discusses health, water and housing issues at weekly session

Damascus, SANA – The Cabinet discussed in its weekly session on Tuesday a number of services and economic issues, including efforts to confront the common winter diseases and prevent their spread, finding solutions to problems related to water supply shortfalls in some provinces and taking necessary steps to complete the draft law on regulating the housing cooperative sector.

Chairing the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi affirmed that there is not any pandemic in Syria, giving directions to the Health Ministry, the hospitals affiliated to the High Education Ministry and the military medical facilities to observe the normal flu cases reported in some areas and provide the required treatment.

As for the drinking water situation, al-Halaqi stressed the need to embark on implementing the investment projects of the Ministry of Water Resources and its establishments to resolve the problems of water shortfalls in some provinces, particularly Damascus and Lattakia, and work to secure alternative water resources through digging wells and supplying tanks and purification plants.

The Premier also called for activating the role of the General Housing Establishment to continue the construction of youth and worker housing compounds and work to provide alternative housing places to organize illegal housing areas.
