Cuba celebrates 57th anniversary of national Revolution victory

Havana, SANA- Cuba celebrated on Friday the 57th anniversary of the victory of national revolution, led by former President Fidel Castro.

Cuban youths participated in the freedom convoy, which embodied a similar convoy, led by Castro in 1959 when he entered Havana.

In 1959, Castro led a popular revolution in his country against the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.

The Cuban Revolution marked a new era, not only for the Caribbean island, but also for the larger Latin American region. The socialist model inspired other countries like Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia to follow their lead and reorganize their social and economic systems to cater to the needs of the people, rather than the powerful.

In the 57 years of its revolutionary process, Cuba has managed to eradicate poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment as well as reducing the mortality rate of children under five.
