Indian External Affairs Ministry official: India rejects external interference in Syria

New Delhi, SANA – Sandeep Kumar, the Joint Secretary of the North Africa and West Asia Division of the Indian External Affairs Ministry, said that India firmly rejects external interference in Syria, and that the solution to the crisis in it must be exclusively Syria so that it may serve the interests of all elements of the Syrian people.

During a seminar titled “global impact of Syria” which was organized by the Indian National Defense College in New Delhi, Kumar said that India is concerned over the growing influence of Saudi-and-Qatar-backed and US-sanctioned terrorism in the region in a manner similar to what happened in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He also stressed the strength of Indian-Syrian relations.

In turn, Syria’s Ambassador to India Riyad Abbas gave a presentation on the current situation in Syria, the war waged upon it, and the countries which support, fund, and arm terrorism, stressing the need for all peace-loving countries in the world to cooperate to fight terrorism.

Participants in the seminar agreed upon the need to combat terrorism and extremism and uncover their backers, saying that what is happening in Syria and Iraq requires international cooperation to fight terrorism which threatens the region’s future.
