Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed on Thursday that it is impossible to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria without President Bashar al-Assad who represents interests of the Syrian society.
“Western countries have recognized the nullity of their previous statements which declared that Syria’s issues would be solved through the departure of President al- Assad,” Lavrov told Voice of Russia Radio.
He was confident in the possibility of coordinating against the Islamic state (ISIS) even with countries that join the US-led coalition, provided that respecting Syria’s sovereignty and the capacity of the Syrian government.
Moscow: Intensifying efforts to implement Vienna agreements on Syria
Meanwhile, Maria Zakharova, Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry said “Moscow is working to intensify efforts to implement Vienna agreements on solving the crisis in Syria.”
“Russia is convinced that those agreements would pave the way for launching a Syrian- Syrian dialogue as soon as possible to serve the political settlement to the crisis in Syria on the basis of Geneva statement issued on June 30, 2012,” Zakharova said at a
press conference.
She pointed out that Russia had suggested a draft resolution to the UN Security Council and is awaiting a response from the other partners and their suggestions in this regard, stressing the necessity of uniting efforts of all countries to confront terrorism.
