Damascus, SANA – Brazil and Germany will face each other on Tuesday in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-finals, with the two football giants vying for a spot in the final match.
Despite both teams having won multiple World Cup titles in the past, this is only the second time they face each other in the World Cup, with the first being in 2002 when Brazil denied Germany at the final match at the hands of Ronaldo who scored two goals against German goalie Olvier Khan, so the German team is now poised to settle its old score.
Germany, which had won the World Cup three times (in 1954, 1974, and 1990), is the first team to ever qualify for the World Cup semi-finals four times in a row, while Brazil has won the Cup a total of five times (in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002).
Germany’s coach Joachim Loew is confident of his team’s ability to qualify for the final match, as the German team has a lineup of World Cup veterans, including Miroslave Klose who has his eyes set on breaking Ronaldo’s record for most goals in World Cups, as both are currently tied at 15 goals.
On the other hand, Brazil’s coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will field a team that is missing two players: team captain Thiago Silva who is suspended due to two yellow cards, and Neymar who sustained a serious injury during the match against Columbia. Brazil’s fans are now looking to David Luiz to take charge and bring their team to the final match.
