Finals of Syrian Science Olympiad for teachers start

Damascus, SANA – The finals of the Syrian Science Olympiad for teachers started on Saturday, with 220 contestants.

Those had qualified in province-level qualifiers in the subjects of math, physics, chemistry, biology and IT and are representing the provinces of Damascus, Damascus Countryside, Sweida, Quneitra, Homs, Aleppo, Hama, Tartous and Lattakia.

The National Commission for the Syrian Science Olympiad and the Ministry of Education are the sponsors and organizers of the finals.

Inspecting the competitions, held in the Law Faculty of Damascus University, Minister Hazwan al-Wazz said the cooperation with the Commission reflects “an ambitious vision for developing education.”

This is done, he added, through keeping teachers undated with the latest developments in their specializations and assessing their skills to find out the distinguished among them who will be well catered for.

The final tests will be conducted in two rounds, 3 hours each.

Winning teachers will be benefited from in the process of qualifying and training other teachers in the various provinces. Some might be given the opportunity to join the Central Scientific Committee of the Olympiad or be appointed as specialized instructors and join the curricula developing teams.

The first stage of the Olympiad for teachers was held on August 30 with the participation of 700 teachers. The top two teachers made it through to the finals.

This year’s contest is the second, as an experimental one took place last year in four provinces involving 344 contestants.
