Tehran, SANA – Iran’s Supreme Leader’s Senior Advisor Ali Akbar Velayati affirmed his country’s firm stance in supporting Syria in fighting terrorism and extremism.
“Syria was in the first trench in confronting the Zionist entity, it is now facing zionists tools and mercenaries as well as the terrorist elemination project which aims at undermining and weakening resistance axis in the region to serve the Zio-American project”, Velayati said during his meeting with Interior Minister Gen. Mohammad al-Shaar Tuesday, who is on an official visit to Tehran.
The terrorists, and those who are supporting them, will not be able to achieve their goals in Syria and the region no matter how much they escalate their acts of terrroism, Velayati added.
Showing confidence of the Syrian people’s victory, the Iranian official stressed that the valor and resilience of the Syrian leadership and the sacrifices of the Syrian people and army thwarted the conspiracy targeting Syria.
He pointed out that countries which support, finance, arm and train terrorist organizations in Syria are mistaken as terrorism and its destructive impacts will reflect back on its supporters and funders.
Gen. al-Shaar, in turn, warned against the risks of terrorism stretching in the region and the world in light of the absence of serious will in fighting it, moreover the support offered by the Western and some regional countries through training, financing and arming terrorists which encourage terrorists to escalate their crimes in Syria and the region.
He referred to the importance of the tripartite meeting among the Syrian, Iranian and Iraqi Interior Ministers, scheduled to be held in Baghdad, that aims at coordinating efforts among the countries of the region for facing terrorism and terrorists.
Hailing the Iranian support to Syrian in its war against terrorism, the Minister said that the Iranian support enhances Syrian people’s resilience and achieves positive outcomes.
Both sides stressed during the meeting the firm and common will in fighting terrorism and serious work to foil the schemes of the enemies of the region in a way that serves the interests of the countries and peoples of the region and maintains its security, stability, territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In joint statements following the meeting, Velayati described the Syrian-Iranian relations as “strategic, brotherly and historic,” pointing out that Minister al-Shaar’s visit to Tehran and his meetings with senior Iranian officials have come out with fruitful and positive results, particularly in relation to the trilateral cooperation between Iran, Syria and Iraq in countering terrorism.
“Syria and Iraq, which are fighting terrorism, are defending all the countries of the region,” said Velayati, pointing out in this regard to the support provided to the terrorist organizations by Israel and the agent countries of “world arrogance powers.”
Velayati struck a hopeful note when he hailed the importance of the upcoming Iranian-Syrian-Iraqi meeting and said that a significant shift in the cooperation among the three countries will take place soon.
For his part, Minister al-Shaar noted that it was discussed with Velayati all means to accelerate the implementation of the security agreement signed between the Interior ministries of the two countries, reiterating that Damascus and Tehran see eye to eye on the necessity to to curb the terror danger, which is threatening the region and the whole world.
Boroujerdi ..Our support to Syrian government and people continues
In the same context, Gen. Shaar met with Chairman of the Iranian Shura Council’s Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security Alaeddin Boroujerdi who asserted that “our support to the Syrian government and people is continuous”.
The sacrifices of the Syrian people are the guarantee of achieving victory whatever the terrorist organizations step up their terrorist acts and whatever the bulk of support, training and arm offered by their regional and international sponsors, Boroujerdi added .
The Iranian Official underlined the serious and common will of Iran, Syria and the resistance axis in confronting terrorism and its organizations, achieving victory and cleansing the region from trans-border heinous phenomenon of terrorism, which endangers the regional and international security and peace.
“The western alliance led by the US under the pretext of fighting terrorism is a flimsy claim which serves the terrorists and the expansion of terrorism in the region”, he said; Criticizing training of the so-called “moderate opposition” and non-adoption of firm measures against the countries that support terrorism and facilitate the move of terrorists which “encourage widening and spreading of terrorism in the region and the whole world”.
For his part, Gen. al-Shaar underscored that Syria will continue confronting terrorism and terrorists whatever the sacrifices are.
Al-Shaar added that terrorist organizations’ recent escalation of criminal acts in Syria is a failed and desperate attempt by them and their supporters to achieve advantages on the ground, asserting that those attempts were foiled by the heroes of the Syrian Arab army and the resistance.
The Interior Minister referred to the importance of the tripartite meeting among the Syrian, Iranian and Iraqi Interior Ministers, scheduled to be held in Baghdad next week and aims at coordinating efforts for facing terrorism, pointing to the importance of the Memo of Understanding (MoU) signed Monday between interior ministries in both countris on internal security cooperation including combating organized crime, terrorism, and all forms of financing them.
In statements following the meeting, Boroujerdi said Iran’s commitment to continuing its support to the Syrian people and government in combating terrorism has been clearly declared and made evident through the “fruitful” talks of the Syrian Interior Minister with the Iranian officials and the signing of the security agreement.
Gen. al-Shaar and his Iranian Counterpart Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli signed in Tehran Monday a Memo of Understanding (MoU) on internal security cooperation including combating organized crime, terrorism, and all forms of financing them, and exchanging information and expertise in this regard. He also met a number of Iranian officials.
