New York, SANA – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari stressed that Syria is not going to strike any deals that are at the expense of its sovereignty and national independence.
Speaking in an interview with Russia Today TV channel published on Thursday, al-Jaafari said by reaching a Geneva 3 conference it would have been a Syria-Syria phase bearing the seeds of a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria in a way that preserves its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
The Swiss city has already hosted two rounds of talks on the crisis in Syria. The first was held without the participation of the Syrian sides and came out with Geneva Communiqué of June 30, 2012.
The 2014 second round, however, was turned into a kind of a media show by the Western countries, who practiced a guardianship role on the delegation of the opposition then, which led to the talks ending with no results.
This year, the Russian capital hosted two rounds of inter-Syrian talks in January and in April, with the two sides-the government delegation and opposition figures- approving “Moscow Principles” guidelines in the first and a unified paper assessing the “status quo in Syria” item of a Russian-proposed schedule in the second.
Moscow talks are kind of consultations aimed at bringing the Syrian parties closer, with prospects of holding a new round of talks in Geneva are being encouraged.
Al-Jaafari said opening new tracks parallel to that of Moscow might seek to disrupt the latter, referring to the moves held in Kazakhstan, Cairo and other places which have involved only specific opposition groups, while the Syrian government is absented.
At Moscow track however, he added, there are the Syrian government delegation on one side and the opposition groups’ delegations on the other side, with the talks there having resulted in adopting a “very important” paper outlining a common view for the first time between the government and the national opposition groups on a political evaluation of the situation in Syria.
Al-Jaafari regretted that some international, regional and Arab forces, especially Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, US and France, are attempting to distract attention from and disrupt this track of reaching a Syrian-Syrian dialogue or understanding.
It is these very same forces, which are involved in the bloodshed in Syria, that have also hindered the so-called UN track to solve the crisis in Syria as they have foiled the attempts of almost all of the UN envoys for Syria since the beginning of the crisis there.
