Tehran: Cross-border terrorist infiltration into Syria must stop, no-fly zone would be a mistake

Tehran, SANA – Tehran Foreign Ministry warned that the talk of a no-fly zone in Syria would be “a repetition of the previous mistakes.”

Such a measure would not help in establishing security and stability in the region, said Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdullahian.

Speaking in statements on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Kuwait, Abdullahian called for control of the countries’ borders with Syria to prevent infiltration of terrorists into the latter.

This, he said, is a need in order to come to a political solution to the crisis in Syria, which is the only solution.

If efforts to stop the use of terrorism as a tool in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq, were not accelerated, the terror threat would arrive on the doorsteps of the countries supporting the terrorists, Abdullahian warned.

In that case, the regional security and stability would be further jeopardized, he added.
