Syria discusses cooperation prospects with international organizations to provide water for citizens

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Water Resources Kamal al-Sheikha discussed on Sunday with Dominik Stillhart, Director of Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Damascus Marianne Gasser means of activating cooperation and carrying out vital projects in water and sanitation sectors.

During the meeting, al-Sheikha reviewed the ministry’s emergency plan which is worth SYP 16 billion for providing alternative water sources in all provinces in case the main sources go out of service.

For his part, Stillhart affirmed the ICRC interest in carrying out joint projects with the ministry to provide water resources for all citizens according to priorities and urgent needs, clarifying that the ICRC gives special attention to the water sector.

In the same context, al-Sheikha discussed with OXFAM delegation headed by Tim Holmes, the regional director of the Middle East & Commonwealth of Independent States (MECIS) the current and future joint projects.

Both sides agreed on ironing out difficulties to ensure that joint projects are executed, stressing the importance of developing work, expanding cooperation and carrying out development projects.
