Catch-up vaccination campaign targeting children under five

Damascus, SANA- The Health Ministry, in cooperation with Damascus governorate, launched on Monday a vaccination campaign which targets children under five who missed previous routine vaccinations in Esh al-Warwar, Tishreen and Barza al-Balad neighborhoods in Damascus.

Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi pointed out during his visit to mobile teams and medical points that the campaign comes in the framework of the ministry’s efforts to immunize children against childhood diseases.

The minister affirmed that mobile teams are providing vaccines for children under five who are living in hard-to-access areas, calling on families to bring their children to healthcare centers or the nearest mobile team to have them receive the vaccine which is completely free of charge.

In this campaign, explains Nurse Adele Wassouf, children between 7 months and 1 year of age will be given Vitamin A besides the anti- measles vaccine, while children aged between 1 and 5 years will be given the MMR vaccine in addition to Vitamin A regardless of their previous vaccinations.

The ministry had launched a national 12-day anti-measles vaccination campaign for children under five and another for children who have missed routine vaccinations between April 19-30.
