Damascus, SANA –The visiting Belgian delegation reiterated Wednesday that to have Syria standing its ground in the face of terrorism is a necessity for the safety of Belgium and Europe in general.
Member of Belgium’s Parliament Filip Dewinter, who is heading the delegation on its visit to Syria, said Syria’s steadfastness against terrorism is essential to help Belgium and Europe face this scourge that has come on their doorstep.
During his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, Dewinte added it is necessary to work for fighting terrorism, an end that demands cooperation.
He said he will work along with his colleagues on revealing to the public opinion back in Belgium and Europe the reality of the situation in Syria and the scale of the Syrian people’s suffering under the sanctions imposed on them by Western sides.
The relations between Syria and European countries were discussed during the talks, which also highlighted the involvement of some Arab, regional and Western countries in backing terrorism.
Speaking of this involvement, Minister al-Moallem stressed the counter role which European parliaments could play to lay bare the facts about Syria to their people, whose real picture is contrary to the image depicted by some media of the conspiring countries.
He affirmed Syria’s determination to continue fighting terrorism, noting that the unspeakable brutality of the crimes committed by the terrorists demands international cooperation to stand up to them.
People’s Assembly committee discusses with Belgian delegation reality of events in Syria
The Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee at the People’s Assembly discussed with the visiting Belgian parliamentary delegation the reality of what is going on in the country of a systemized war run by international powers through terrorist tools to target the economic, civilized and human constituents of the Syrian people.
Head of the committee, MP Fadia Deib said what is going on in Syria is a conflict against a coming terrorism, supported by regional and international powers, but the Syrian people have increased their commitment to the legitimacy of the Syrian state and its leadership.
For their part, members of the committee warned against the crimes being committed against women and children in the regions where terrorists dominate, referring to the terrorists’ violations and sabotage acts against the human and civilized heritage.
Dewinter said “We came to Syria to inspect the realities as we have no confidence in the European media coverage about Syria and we have an impression that there is wrong information about the country.”
“What is named of a civil war in Syria is not true, but it is an attempt by terrorists to seize rule in this democratic, free country,” Dewinter said.
Al-Zoubi to Belgian delegation: Western media distorts truth about crisis in Syria
Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi pointed out that many Western media outlets continue to distort the truth about the situation in Syria.
Al-Zoubi’s comments came during his meeting with the Belgian parliamentary and party delegation.
The minister invited journalists and European mass media, particularly the Belgian, to visit Syria to see the truth about what is happening and the destruction which universities, schools, churches, mosques and archeological sites have been exposed to by armed terrorist organizations, particularly “Jabhat al-Nusra” and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria(ISIS).
The minister clarified that the European sanctions imposed on Syrian media are blocking the Syrians’ voice and the truth about international and regional terrorism which is targeting it.
“The difference between terrorist organizations and what Western countries call moderate opposition is similar to the difference between plague and cholera,” the minster added.
The minister said that hundreds of terrorists who have been trained by the US in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey have overrun Aleppo, Daraa and Idleb provinces from the Jordanian and Turkish borders, targeting Aleppo and Idleb with hundreds of rockets and shells and are targeting and destroying Busra al-Sham city, which is considered one of the most important cities in Syria and the world.
For his part, Dewinter apologized to Syria over the policies pursued by the Belgian government that led to the entry of more than / 450 / Belgium citizens to Syria to fight in the ranks of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), indicating that those terrorists represent a major threat to Belgium if they return.
He said that foreign policies, particularly those of the US, are not helping in combating terrorism, adding that air strikes of US-led coalition against ISIS positions will not beat the terror organization.
Yesterday, the delegation met with Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, Health Minister Nizar Yazigi and Grand Mufti of the Republic Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun.
