Syria participates in the Caribbean Regional Seminar of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization

Caracas, SANA- The activities of the Caribbean Regional Seminar of the United Nations Special Policy and Decolonization Committee, were held in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, with the participation of more than 50 countries, including Syria.

Syria, which holds the position of rapporteur of the Committee, was represented by its Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak.

The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, and the Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, highlighted the importance of the committee’s work in ending colonialism and supporting the 17 non-self-governing territories recognized by the United Nations.

Rodriguez denounced that coercive measures are a mechanism of neocolonialism adopted by Washington to seize the resources and wealth that sovereign peoples possess.

For his part,al-Dahhak reiterated Syria’s rejection of colonialism in all its forms and manifestations, its firm commitment in its national capacity and as rapporteur of the Decolonization Committee, to support the Committee mandate, and its aspiration for the “fourth decade to end colonialism is the last.”.
