Thrilling performance of National Orchestra for Arabic Music at Opera House

Damascus, SANA – The National Orchestra for Arabic Music performed a breathtaking concert on Tuesday with the participation of Oud soloist Joan Qaracholi at the Damascus-based Opera House.

The ensemble gave diverse orchestral masterpieces including a novel melody named “Hanin” (Nostalgia) besides other pieces from the Syrian folklore where it has won acclaim for performing a folkloric medley by composer Nazih Asaad taking the audience in a musical journey through the Syrian geographic map.

The rich program of yesterday’s concert dedicated a harmonious melding of songs marking the Mothers’ Day (on 21st March) by the choirs including those of renowned artists Fairouz, Dwraid Lahham and Zaki Nassif amidst high applause of audience and critics.
Maestro Adnan Fatthallah, leader of the orchestra, told SANA that the concert comes within the two-month periodic concerts, adding that the program included new and traditional pieces.

“The program featuring a music piece of the renowned Oud soloist Joan Qaracholi with a song of the great Arabic singer Umm Kulthum gave a different flavor to the concert”, Fatthallah clarified.

The National Orchestra for Arabic Music was first founded in 1990 and then restructured by Maestro Issam Rafe’in 2003. To date Maestro Adnan Fatthallah is the leader of the 70 –member ensemble, which gives different sorts of Arabic, oriental, classic and expressionist music.
